Bauhaus
Bauhaus helped set the "gothic" scene in the late 70's and early 80's-
creating both and image and music which is hard for anyone to impersonate,
let alone cover decently (not that a number of decent bands have not given
it a try-- file under "Cleopatra Tribute Albums". The band split in 1983,
with Peter Murphy pursuing a successful solo career (as well as a side
project, Dali's Car, with Japan's Mick Karn).
David J went on his own,
and Daniel Ash and Kevin Haskins got together to form a great band
named Tones on
Tail. A short time later, David J returned and the three continued to
record together under a name you may have heard, Love and Rockets.
