DEAD THING
A car game for two or more players
            OFFICAL HM RSPSG/PLF REGULATIONS

The object of the game is to score the most points.

Points are awarded for spotting road kills during a vehicular
journey.

A "road kill" is defined as the carcass, or remains thereof, of
any animal, which is resting on a metalled area and has been
subject to an impact (regardless of whether or not this is the
actual cause of death).

When a road kill is spotted, the player who has spotted the road
kill must shout, very loudly, "DEAD THING!".

Only the first person to shout "DEAD THING!" in reference to a
single road kill scores the points relevant to that road kill.

Points vary according to which side of the road the road kill is
spotted on, and the nature of the road kill.

Players must organise themselves into two teams; those seated on
the left of the vehicle and those seated on the right. Players
seated in the centre may choose teams.

The left-seated team owns the left-hand road lanes and the right-
seated team owns the right-hand road lanes.

"Left-hand road lanes" are defined as any lanes in the current
carriageway to the left of the lane the vehicle is currently
travelling on, plus the current lane in countries which drive on
the left.

"Right-hand road lanes" are defined as any lanes in the current
carriageway to the right of the lane the vehicle is currently
travelling on, plus the current lane in countries which drive on
the right.

With the exception of trump, double trump and void road kills,
any road kill spotted by a team member in their own lanes scores
1 point, whereas any road kill spotted by a team member in the
opposing team's lanes scores 2 points.

(Gardner's Lanes) Road kills spotted on any metalled area
separated from the current carriageway, at the place of the road
kill, by a non-metalled area (e.g. grass) or raised metalled area
(e.g. pavement or central reservation barrier) score 3 points.
Examples include the oncoming lanes of a dual carriageway, feeder
lanes, car parks and other roads. However, bus-stops, loading
bays and other pull-ins count as normal left or right hand lanes.

Void road kills do not score any points in any lane. A "void"
road kill is defined as any road kill with a carcass of less than
5 centimetres in diameter at its widest point, plus humans,
horses, large insects and large arachnids which are identifiable
as such by their carcass, plus any road kill actually caused by
an impact with the current vehicle (including previous journeys
in that vehicle).

(Oakley's Trumps) Trump road kills score 5 points in any lane. A
"trump" road kill is any road kill which is identifiable by its
carcass as a species for which it is a criminal offence to kill
according to the laws of the player's home country (in the UK,
this includes badgers, swans and herons, for instance).

Double trump road kills score 10 points in any lane. A "double
trump" road kill is any kill actually seen in action; ie.
observed as living, killed by impact with another vehicle, and
leaving its carcass on a metalled area.

A road kill may score cumulatively as both a trump and a double
trump. However, all void kills score 0 regardless of trump or
double trump status.

Please note that an RFD covering suggested new scoring regulations for
line-crossing carcases, and special rules governing single-track
roads, is expected early next year.
