This is why I'm subscribed to C18-L (a listserv devoted to all things 18th century). The following questions were posed to the list by one subscriber:In David Underdown's _A Freeborn People_, he notes that certain sports, such as fencing and horse-racing were set aside for elites, whereas 'shin-kicking and wrestling' were put aside for the plebs. No solid answers have yet been posted, though speculation abounds.Does 'shin-kicking' mean what I think it does?
How did one engage in a game of shin-kicking?
