IronPort / Cisco Systems, May 2005 to present Design web application user interfaces to be used by system administrators of network security products. Current projects include both adding complex new features to an existing product, and laying foundation for UI of a completely new product. Work closely with product management, user interface engineering, and software architecture teams to develop practical and usable designs that meet business requirements. Participate in early feature planning, to ensure that user experience factors are considered in architectural decisions. Follow through to nail the design details, and to provide complete documentation including Visio wireframes, HTML mockups, and detailed specifications of page behavior. As lead designer for web security appliance, designed system setup wizard and network configuration pages for 1.0 version of complex web proxy-based product, and designed the UI for major new features in multiple subsequent releases. Also mentored junior and new-hire designers. During introduction of a new reporting framework, coordinated design of reports across two product lines. Participated in groundwork for centralized reporting feature.
PeopleSoft / Oracle, September 2004 to May 2005 Participated in design of the next-generation PeopleSoft development environment, to be based on the Eclipse IDE framework. Prepared detailed storyboard for Page Designer tool, as well as collaborating on functional specifications with the Product Management team. After Oracle merger, contributed to user research and product planning for future merged PeopleSoft / Oracle development and system lifecycle management tools.
Adaptive Path (freelance), August 2004 to September 2004 Performed a web application content audit for a client of consulting firm Adaptive Path, including development of content map and documentation of functional audit methodology. Participated in preparation of wireframes for updated web application. Sun Microsystems (contract), July 2002 to April 2004
Participated in a major project to redesign and consolidate discussion forums on the Sun web site, including data mining, interaction design, and taxonomy development.
University of California at Berkeley, August 2000 - May 2002
Completed interdisciplinary Master's degree in the School of Information Management and Systems (SIMS), focusing on information retrieval and user interface design, prototyping, and evaluation.
Ask Jeeves, June 2001 - August 2001 Participated in development of search engine evaluation tools. Performed object-oriented Perl programming, including XML DOM API, in a FreeBSD environment. Assisted in user interface design, created on-line documentation, and researched search engine evaluation parameters. Westinghouse Nuclear Projects Division, 1996-2000 Coordinated system configuration, software testing, and software release for distributed plant information systems using Solaris OS and Oracle database. Developed Perl and csh scripts for use in testing, software installation, and system administration. Responded to customer queries and problem reports, and performed field installation of software updates. Westinghouse Process Control Division, 1993-1996 Installed and tested plant information system software at power station in England. Technical lead for project test team at site. Provided direct customer support, UNIX system trouble-shooting, and liaison with main office in U.S. Westinghouse Process Control Division, 1992-1993 Performed functional testing of industrial process control / plant information system software on Sun workstations, including creating test programs and test procedures.
Westinghouse Process Control Division, 1987-1992 Designed and authored user documentation for industrial process control product line, including operation, programming, and hardware installation instructions. Applied Science Associates, 1980-1987 Project lead at consulting firm specializing in training and human factors design.
