Connie Willis, Passage, which is a kind of eerie combination of medical thriller, metaphysical exploration and ghost story that reminds me a lot of another of her books, Lincoln's Dreams. I wasn't satisified with the ending of this one, but I have to admit that the subject matter makes it difficult to find ANY satisfying ending. Death is horrible, but it's also puzzling.
