Haloween is this Sunday. I need to decide what I want to do.
Speaking of which, my birthday is coming up on the 8th (of November). Not sure what I'm gonna do for that either. It's number 21, but I don't plan on that really meaning anything. My friends, however, may intend otherwise ;-)

good news, everybody!

took the car in on MOnday and got the rest of the brake work done. Feel much better now, Iand I feel better driving it knowing my brakes aren't going to wear out.

And you know what's a really good feeling? Putting your pants on in the morning and realizing they feel looser than they used to. That's right, I've apparently actually lost weight since coming back to school.

well, today was exciting

so, I found this in my e-mail in-box yesterday:

"Vice President Richard Cheney has announced plans to attend a Bush/Cheney ’04
Town Meeting with supporters from Crawford, Erie and Mercer Counties on
Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Wise Center. Although this is a private event,
hosted by Bush/Cheney ’04, closed-circuit viewing will be available for members
of the campus community on the campus cable system on channel 12. Observers will
also be accommodated on the brick patio outside the northeast landing of the
Campus Center and across the street at parking lot #9. For security reasons, the
Wise Center will be closed on Wednesday from 6 a.m. until about 1 p.m. Also on
Wednesday morning, Highland Street will be closed between John Street and East
College Street, and no parking will be permitted in lots #5 and #6 (the lots
south of the Wise Center and north of Edwards Hall) and lot #9 (north of the
Campus Center off Highland). The Safety and Security Office will not issue
parking tickets on campus on Tuesday evening or Wednesday. While its facilities
may be rented as available, Allegheny College is neither the host nor the
sponsor of the Town Meeting with Vice President Cheney and does not endorse any
political party or individual candidate. Through the Center for Political
Participation, however, Allegheny encourages members of our community to become
involved in, and work to improve, the electoral processes that shape our
democracy.Student fellows from the Center for Political Participation will host
a public discussion of the role of the vice presidential candidates in this
year’s political campaign on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Henderson Auditorium of
Quigley Hall. For more information about the CPP discussion, please call
332-6201."

He was indeed here this morning. Of course, I couldn't go see him, and I had class during his speech, so I didn't see him on TV either. Oh well. My blood-pressure's probably healthier for having ignored him completely.
It was enjoyable, however, to have my journalism professor bring up this message and spend the first fifteen minutes of class pointing out that it really isn't a 'town meeting' if only some people from the town (read: republicans) are allowed into it. Also, the disclaimer at the end just felt like they're covering their own asses, as a disclaimer really shouldn't be neccesary otherwise.

Also, my VisaBuxx card arrived today. Rather later than I expected, but apparently due to the wrong address being printed on it despite my being told that that address is the one I should use. I'll have to talk to the lady who works in the post office about this to make sure they haven't randomly decided to change my address without telling me.
Long story short, I can't use the card anyway since it's been suspended, so now I wait for my parents to fix that, and hopefully change the address they have as it si our old address and we don't live there anymore.

more pumpkins!

Ade came back from her Fall Break today, and she brought pumkins! I'm excited because that means I get to carve jack-o'-lanterns! I'm tempted to go buy a few more of them so I can go crazy and carve more of them... I guess I'm feeling artistically stifled because I haven't made any visual art in a while.
I need to paint, or sculpt, or draw, or something!

Fall Break

not bad...
Only downside was spending $150 of my own money to get my brakes 'fixed'. I say 'fixed' 'cause they need more work, but I can't afford it, and I'm still waiting fort my VisaBuxx card in the mail. Should be here soon. Like, tomorrow.
Went to Erie Friday night and spent it with my grandparents, then drove to Cleveland Saturday to go to the art museum because I won't be able to make the field trip with my Far Eastern Art class later this month. Was really happy to see this peice in particular, because I've always loved Jomon pottery. The patterns and everything look so... organic and lively and, well, modern for lack of a more specific term. And this piece in particular is much larger than I thought it would be.
Wanted to see this painting while I was there so I could write a poem about it for BAkken's writing poetry class, but it wasn't on display. Oh well. I'll make due with what I've got.

five minutes later...

so no sooner did I get up and leave the computer lab, than I see that I have voicemail. It's Adam calling to tell me my Visa card arrived. Thanks Adam! Apparently, however, the address on the envelope was momand dad's old one in Fairfax... where they no longer live. Which means they need to look into getting that changed either to their current address or to mine if possible (this second option seems unlikely as they wouldn't send the card ditrectly to me either for some stupid reason. It's not like I can somehow get more of my parents' money by having the physical card...)
talked to Mom yesterday to wish her a happy birthday.
This weekend is Fall Break (it doesn't feel like I'm halfway through the semester yet! AAAhhhh! Panic!) Will probably spend most of it here in Meadville, since going home would just be a huge pain. At some point however, I want to go to the Cleveland museum of art because I won't be able to go on the feild trip for my Far Eastern Art class, and I need to see the exhibit so I can write the paper...
Plus side is that Jess will also be staying for Fall Break, and will go to Cleveland with me, as will my grandparents (hopefully, since they know how to get there, and I don't. plus, I need to get the breakes on the Jeep looked at, which reminds me... Adam: did my Visa Buxx card ever show up?).

geez. I've been terrible about updating.

Guess I should mebntion that I got the internet working aghain in the house. I say "I" because I was the one to go complain about it to the right people.

Have thought about putting some of the stuff from my Writing Poetry class up, but I think I'll wait until I've revised them thoroughly. Meaning after I turnm in my portfolio at the end of the semester.

Mom's birthday is coming up soon, too. I should get her a card or something... at least I'm remembering it's soon instread of forgetting altogether.

Gonna go on a little road-trip today to some tiny town nearby so I can get a feel for it and write my "place" poem for Tuesday. It's raining out, so it may be a good day to visit a dreary little dustspeck town (ooh, I like the sound of that).

Have thought about getting pet rats, as inspired by Jess and time with hers, but realize that it should probably wait until I have my own place where they're technically allowed to be. Upshot is that I miss having animals around. Got some plants for the living room, but it's not quite the same.

It's parents weekend here at Allegheny, and that makes me miss mine even more. I feel guilty for not having called recently.
